Neolithic Dawn is an open-world VR survival adventure set in 10,000 BC North America, where players gather resources, craft tools and weapons, and face (or tame) prehistoric creatures across dense forests and icy tundras.
Following the game’s 1.0 launch on Meta Quest in December 2025, the team has announced the next major update, introducing a brand-new Survival Mode designed to expand how players jump into the game.
Survival Mode allows players to create custom play sessions with no fixed objectives, where the only goal is to survive. The update also adds drop-in and drop-out accessibility, allowing other players to join more easily rather than requiring a room code. Looking ahead, the team says Survival Mode will be expanded in future updates with base building, letting players build a homestead wherever they choose.
With Survival Mode arriving, the original survival campaign has been renamed Story Mode. The update also merges the co-op and single-player save system, allowing players to keep multiple Story Mode saves and choose to continue those same saves either solo or with friends.
The update also adds a Valentine’s-themed “Lovestruck” cosmetics pack, which includes a heart-arrow-through-the-head hat and a pastel pink hair color. Additional changes mentioned include bHaptics support, a refactored backpack redesigned with three new weapon storage slots and improved stability, and continued emphasis on cross-play co-op parity between versions.
Neolithic Dawn is available now on the Meta Quest and SteamVR for $19.99, The Meta Quest and SteamVR editions are described as offering complete parity with full cross-play co-op support.
Neolithic Dawn is developed by Neolithic LLC, a project started by James Bellian in 2021 that the studio says began as a solo effort and has grown over the past four years into a larger team building an expansive prehistoric world.
