Into The Radius 2 Update 0.14.4 brings weapon customization and new late-game content to Meta Quest
Into The Radius 2 on Meta Quest just received a new update focused on expanding progression and combat depth, headlined by a modular weapon customization system and a new late-game area.
Update 0.14.4 (Weapon Customization Update) is now available on Meta Quest, and includes a new location, world refreshes across existing zones, new enemy behavior and threats, and major additions to weapon handling and maintenance.
A key part of this update is the introduction of Pechorsk Outskirts, described as a large late-game area with tougher conditions, new threats, and better rewards. Access is unlocked through the Top Priority mission “Distorted Sample Delivery.” The update also refreshes terrain across existing locations with changes like ravines, slopes, and dugouts, denser forests, new points of interest (including a church and recreation base on Forest), and a new underground maze-like area on Peninsula. Peninsula also receives new ambient and environmental sounds, while interiors across locations have been reworked with more variety, added clutter and furniture, and clearer signs of age or abandonment.
The update also adds Distortion Zones, which warp vision and hearing and can deal heavy health damage if entered without protection. To traverse them, players can use Distortion-Proof Headgear, which provides temporary protection inside a zone and recharges after exiting. The headgear uses its own backpack slot type, shared with ballistic helmets.
Enemy behavior has been updated as well, with Mimics described as fighting more thoughtfully—searching for players rather than firing at last known locations, taking cover under pressure, and adjusting tactics if outnumbered or compromised. At close range, they become more dangerous by changing accuracy, firing mode, and timing. Enemies also react more reliably to sight and sound, including noticing flashlights and laser sights when used nearby. Day and night cycles are now synchronized across locations, and environmental factors like fog, grass, and bushes are stated to affect enemy vision more accurately. A new invisible threat called the Phantom has been introduced, and Creeps and Fragments received balance and bug fixes.
On the weapons side, Update 0.14.4 introduces a Modular Weapon System, letting players build and tune supported firearms using parts such as barrels, handguards, dust covers, pistol grips, and buttstocks. The update notes 156 modules and 30 gun frames available at launch, with much of the main lineup adapted for modular customization, including the AK-74, AKM, AKS-74U, IZh-27, Saiga-12, M4A1, PP-19 Bizon, G36, and a refreshed PP-91 Kedr. New weapons added include the PP-19-01 Vityaz, MP9, Mosin-Nagant, Benelli M2, and SR-25. Pistols and some legacy models remain non-modular (examples listed include PM, GSh-18, Beretta M9, Glock 18C, Fort-17, SKS, AS Val, VSS Vintorez, and OTs-14 Groza). Weapon maintenance is also deeper now, requiring players to clean each weapon part separately, and assembly/customization of modular weapons can only be done at a vise, which can be found in places like the Supply Depot, Dormitory, Armory, and shelters across the Radius. The update also allows mixing parts when attachment slots match, with some cases supporting adapters for additional compatibility.
Additional weapon handling changes include Mag Palming, allowing players to hold two magazines in one hand for faster reloads, and the ability to hold/load two cartridges at once for specific calibers (12x70mm and 7.62x54mm, as listed). Major changes also include a rebalance of the Realistic difficulty preset (increased enemy numbers and health, reduced mission rewards and loot-related values), performance improvements and optimization, automatic flashlight management to reduce redundant lights for performance, UI improvements such as a shader compilation progress bar, and multiple co-op voice chat changes including default-enabled voice/mic, increased proximity chat range, and environmental effects on proximity voice sound.
The update notes that existing save files will continue to work, but loading an older save will move the player to the Facility so the new mission flow and weapon system initialize correctly. With modular weapons introduced, the update states that non-modular weapons in inventory will be removed and replaced with Supply Credits equal to their new-system value. It also lists a known co-op issue where client-held items may drop after loading a save if “Hold to grip” is enabled. The patch also includes a wide set of crash fixes, performance fixes, gear fixes, co-op fixes, UI fixes, and audio improvements, including removal of playback delay on sound effects.
