This morning on his newly launched "Meta Channel" on Instagram, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that both the Meta Quest Pro and the Meta Quest 2 256gb are getting lowered price points. The Quest Pro becomes $999 and the Meta Quest 2 256gb model becomes $429. A steep drop for the Quest Pro down from the previous $1500 price tag and a bit less of a drop for the Quest 2 down from $499.
It seems Meta has been playing with their ideal pricing model the past few months. Last year we saw the Quest 2 price raise $100 which came with a decline in headset sales. The Quest Pro has also seen a few temporary discount since the original launch last October. All this comes with the fact that the Meta Quest 3 headset is releasing later this year.
Whether its Meta trying to figure out the ideal price prior to launch or if they are trying to clear out stock is anybody's guess. However cheaper headset prices helps make VR more accessible and is a huge reason the Meta Quest line of headsets have hit 20mil in sales. The more users in VR is a win for everyone.
Stay tuned for more news as we lead in to the Meta Quest 3's release later this year!
